Common questions about FishPesa loans.
Who can apply for a FishPesa loan?
Kenyan residents aged 18 or above with a valid Safaricom mobile number and national ID
may apply. Eligibility and loan amounts are determined by our credit assessment.
How much can I borrow?
Loan amounts range from KES 20,000 to KES 50,000, with terms from 90 to 180 days.
The actual amount offered depends on your credit profile. New users may start with a
lower limit and qualify for higher amounts after timely repayments.
What is the interest rate / APR?
The maximum Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is 36%. Interest charges are displayed in the
app before you submit your application. There are no hidden fees — the total repayment
amount is shown upfront.
How do I receive the loan?
Approved loans are disbursed directly to your Safaricom M-Pesa mobile wallet. The full
loan amount is credited — interest is not deducted upfront.
How do I repay?
Repay through the FishPesa app using M-Pesa STK Push. An M-Pesa prompt will appear on
your phone — enter your M-Pesa PIN to confirm. We never ask for your M-Pesa PIN within
the app or by phone.
Can I extend my loan?
Yes. If you need more time, you can request a loan extension in the app. Extension fees
are shown before you confirm, and payment is processed via M-Pesa.
What happens if I repay on time?
Timely repayment helps increase your credit limit and may qualify you for better rates
on future loans.
What data does FishPesa collect?
We collect information you provide (profile, KYC details) and, with your permission,
device information for fraud prevention and credit assessment. No data is uploaded
without your authorisation. See our
Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my account?
You can request account deactivation in the app. All outstanding loans must be fully
repaid first. After confirming, there is a 7-day grace period — log in again within
7 days to cancel the closure. If you do not log in within 7 days, the account is
permanently closed.
